News last flu virus in pigs had been in Singapura. Until current drug or vaccine of swine flu virus is still currently in the process of development has not been created alias. So that preventive measures are necessary to be done. At various airports around the world at this time to install heat detector to detect passengers of swine flu into the country each .Other than body heat detector also provided disinfectan automatically each airport, the other is to act threat those infected swine flu not to go out of a State. This is experienced by Pacman Champion boxing from the Philippines who are not allowed back to their country after the return match in USA. The prevention that we can personally do.

Swine flu can indeed kill. Moreover, a new virus strain can spread quickly. The reason, no one shall have a natural immunity against this new virus. And take several months to develop this virus vaccination.
But at least there are some steps that can be done to prevent the disease of swine flu that is transmitted from person to person is. Agency Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides some tips.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the tissue to the recycle bin.
Frequently-washing your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleanser is also effective to use.
Do not touch the mouth, nose or mouth with your hands.
Avoid close contact with people or the sick flu. Because influenza is generally spread through person to person through coughing or sneezing people.
If you're sick of flu, CDC recommends that you do not go to work or school and rest at home.

Nyepi, "The Silent Day " in Bali

Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that falls on Bali's Lunar New Year (March 26, 2009). It is a day of silence, fasting, and meditation. The day following Nyepi is also celebrated as New year Gudi Padva in Maharashtra and Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in India
Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are: no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali’s usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. The only people to be seen outdoors are the Pecalang, traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed.

Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents of Bali observe the day of silence as well, out of respect for their fellow citizens. Even tourists are not exempt; although free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the beaches or streets, and the only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles carrying those with life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.

On the day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni, social activity picks up again quickly, as families and friends gather to ask forgiveness from one another, and to perform certain religious rituals together.

* First, The Melasti Ritual is performed at the 3-4 previous day. It is dedicated to Sanghyang Widhi/Vishnu-Devas-Bataras and is performed at the beach to respect them as the owner of The Land and Sea.
* Second, The Bhuta Yajna Ritual is performed in order to vanquish the negative elements and create balance with God, Mankind, and Nature.
* Third, The Nyepi Rituals is performed with the following conditions:
o Amati Geni: No fire/light
o Amati Karya: No working
o Amati Lelunganan: No traveling
o Amati Lelanguan: Fasting and no revelry/self-entertainment
* Fourth, The Yoga/Brata Ritual starts at 6:00 AM March 26 and continues to 6:00 AM March 27 (24 hours, dates provided are for 2009).
* Fifth, The Ngebak Agni/Labuh Brata Ritual is performed for all Hindu's to forgive each other and to welcome the new days to come.
* Sixth and finally, The Dharma Shanti Rituals is performed as the Nyepi Day or "Day of Silence."

Ten reasons to visit Indonesia

By Paul Smith

(this article posted Thursday Nov 13, 2008 on media-bali@groups.yahoo.com)

1.Tanah Lot, Bali

About 30km to the west of Bali's capital Denpasar, Tanah Lot is a special place where Hindu temples sit on outcrops of rock along the volcanic coastline.
The black sand, craggy rocks and white spray from the pounding sea look strangely like Auckland's west coast beaches but the temples, thought to date from the 15th century, add a mystic feel especially at sunset.
Eating outside dinner at the Melasti Restaurant as the sun goes down is a wonderful experience.

2. CORAL REEF, BUNAKEN

Anyone who snorkels or scuba-dives will enjoy the wonderful coral reef at Bunaken in the province of North Sulawesi.
Boats go out from the mainland each morning for the reef, set just off the palm tree-lined shore of the island.
Hundreds of varieties of fish and marine life can easily be seen in the warm, clear water.
Lunch is available on the island at a basic, sand-floored restaurant.

3. THE FOOD

Meals often start with an excellent soup, often a salty, vegetable broth but sometimes in a more spicy, Thai-style.

Main dishes include barbecued fish - skewered and cooked over hot coals with chilli, satay chicken, or beef cooked in a vegetable stock and coconut milk. Green beans cooked in chilli and garlic is a mainstay vegetable dish.

There is a link to Thai food but less in the way of curry as meat is often prepared with an almost dry sauce. You'll probably need to like chillies because there is some heat in most dishes, though it is not usually overpowering.

Dessert leans towards the super-sweet.

4. THE COFFEE

Although the dreaded Nescafe rears its ugly head from time to time, the standard of coffee is usually excellent.

Often made in the filter-style favoured in the US, rather than the espresso-base of New Zealand and Australia, the coffee is usually very smooth and gently invigorating rather than a morning energy bolt.

Coffee beans can be bought direct from plantations in places including Bali for as little as about $3. (Or you can always get some prized luwak coffee beans, which cost about US$55 having been eaten by civet cats and passed through them before being collected.)

5. THE WEATHER

As long as you like it hot and humid, Indonesia's climate is for you.

Running roughly 5000km along the equator, the country is very warm all year round. Jakarta's temperatures range from around 23C at night to 31C in the day with a wet season from November to March.

6. SHOPPING IN JAKARTA

Whether you want Western designer goods at the plush Grand Indonesia mall in the city centre, or one of the more traditional mall-cum-markets dotted around the city, shoppers should be happy.

Obvious targets for the credit card are Indonesian-made batik clothing and textiles, while you might just be able to find a new mobile phone at malls which have an entire floor of cellphone stalls one after the other.

Some of the main shopping centres in the city are: Elite Plaza Indonesia, Plaza EX and the Plaza Semanggi in central Jakarta, Taman Anggrek Mall in the west, Kelapa Gading Mall in the east, WTC Mangga Dua in the north, Plaza Senayan and Pondok Indah Mall in the south.

If there is a price displayed it's probably fixed, but otherwise bargaining is expected.

7. TEMPLE HOPPING IN YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta in central Java is one of the historical and religious centres of Indonesia.

The Prambanan and Borobudur temples just outside the city are both Unesco World Heritage sites. The thousands of pieces of volcanic rock they are built from make them an arresting sight.

The Buddhist Borobudur temple is a national icon covering a surface area of 2500 square metres. It was built in the 8th and 9th centuries and restored with Unesco's help in the 1970s.

An earthquake in 2006 partially destroyed the Hindu Prambanan temple and set back the restoration by several years, but work continues and the site is very much visitable. (A viewing platform at the site collapsed a year later with a tour party of Russians on it, initially sparking fears of another earthquake before it was realised 90 people had been on a structure built for a maximum of 30.)

8. MANADO BISCUIT FACTORY

Almost too surreal for words, the biscuit factory attraction in Manado, North Sulawesi - bizarrely housed in a place called the Merciful Building - has to be checked out.

The crowd of workers who welcome you with big smiles, megaphones and shirts proclaiming "the group the never the sleeps" (I think this translates as "we work 24/7") are just so Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

They take you down the four floors of the factory (or at least a simulation of what is presumably a real factory somewhere else), explaining how all the biscuits and confectionery are made.

It's actually quite interesting, and the produce is very good. Funnily enough, you end up at the bottom in the shop where you can then buy to your heart's content. Which, as the prices are cheap and the taste good, is no bad idea.

9. THE PEOPLE

You can expect a warm welcome wherever you go in Indonesia.

Though the hawkers at tourist sites can become annoying, elsewhere you are likely to be greeted with smiles and genuine friendship.

The governor of the North Sulawesi region even calls his region "The Land of Smiling People" with some justification.

10. SECURITY?

This is the great unknown of Indonesian travel. Following the Bali bombings of 2002 and 2005 many tourists are understandably wary of visiting.

At the time of writing, the Australian and New Zealand governments are warning against travel because of fears of repercussions following the execution of the Bali bombers.

On the other hand, more than 5m tourists visited Indonesia last year without serious incident. I didn't see anything to concern me about either terrorism or crime during my visit, but that does not mean dangers do not exist.

* Paul Smith visited Jakarta, Manado, Bali and Yogyakarta courtesy of the Indonesian government.

http://www.nzherald .co.nz/internati onal-travel/ news/article. cfm?c_id= 1501830&objectid=10542836&pnum=0[/b]

Bali named world’s ‘best island’

Yuli Tri Suwarni, The Jakarta Post, Bali has again been named the world’s best island by the readers of U.S. magazine Travel+Leisure. It is the fifth time the popular resort island has topped the list and it was also named Asia’s best island for the seventh time. In the top islands ranking, Bali was followed by Hawaii’s Kauii and Maui and the Great Barrier Reef Islands in Australia. Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said he had not been certain Bali would win considering the 2002 and 2005 bombings on the island.

“I had a strong feeling, but the bombings made me not so sure. But it turns out tourists still think Bali is the best among other islands in the world,” he told The Jakarta Post in Garut, West Java, on Thursday evening.
Three of Bali’s hotels ranked on the list of the world’s 10 best hotels: The Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan and The Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay came in second and fifth places respectively and the Ritz-Carlton Bali Resort & Spa placed seventh.
“This award makes we Indonesians proud of Bali. We have a tendency of not appreciating what we have, but other people out there appear to have higher opinions,” Jero said.
The Education Ministry’s director for foreign promotion, Tatang Rukhiyat, said the award was accepted by Andri Hadi, the Indonesian embassy’s deputy chief of mission in Washington, and the embassy’s acting chief representative, Harbangan Napitupulu, on July 20 at the Rockefeller Center in New York.
The award, he said, was based on a survey of 23,000 respondents, who were asked to pick the world’s best island, city, hotel, airline, cruise liner, car rental company, tour operator and spa. The magazine has 915,000 subscribers.
“The award doesn’t mean we should stop developing Bali. It should instead make us keep trying to bring in tourists and make them feel at home,” Tatang said.
Jero said more than 6,000 foreign tourists a day were on Bali in peak seasons, but in the weeks after the bombings in 2005 it had been more like 500.
“The situation is getting better now, with around 4,000 foreign tourists on the island a day,” he said.

source : The Jakarta Post

Bali awarded The Best Island in Asia Pacific 2008

Bali received award as The Best Island in Asia Pacific 2008 from DestinAsia Magazine last February in Hong Kong. While in Bali's see the endangered Bali Starling, dive local waters in search of Mola-Mola and other marine species; take a nature hike; raft down one of the Island's rivers; visit a botanical garden; take a bike tour, visit a museum, go kayaking, paddle a canoe or go sailing. Such activities are loads of fun and also a lower environmental impact. What's more, when you purchase "green travel products" you help an important segment of the sustainable tourism sector grow and prosper.
Think before you consume! Carry a refillable drinking bottle; carry a cloth bag for your shopping purchases; buy locally made products whenever possible; and beware of wasteful packaging practices. When you leave Bali, don't leave a pile of trash behind. Bio-degradable products and packaging are definitely the sustainable way to travel.

Think before you buy! How "green" are your purchases? Deal with hotels and tour operators who have an active conservation program. Laundry reduction, water conservation and energy conservation programs all add up to make an important difference. Spend your money with companies who share your concern for nature.
No go zones! Do not buy items made from coral, sea shells, turtle shells and the dead remains of endangered species. Never give money directly to children, but consider instead a donation to one of Bali's outstanding philanthropic organizations.
Conserve our precious fossil fuels and reduce your carbon footprint! Join a seat-in-coach tour of Bali; private cars burn more gas. Turn off your room air conditioner and enjoy the sea breeze. Use rechargeable batteries, Bali's landfills don't need your unused batteries. When possible use the waste bin, not your toilet for disposal. Reduce energy, water and detergent use by asking your hotel not to change linen on a daily basis. Take a walk and enjoy our tropical climate - after all, its one of the reasons you came here. The best way to meet the Balinese is on foot.
Gifts for Balinese friends? Give items of lasting value and, when possible, purchase items produced by the local community.Eat more vegetables. While it may not be practical for you to become "meatless"- it's worth remembering that 100 vegetarians can dine on the grains it takes to produce the meat requirements of a single non¬ vegetarian.
Most importantly, be sure to have fun in Bali. You're visiting one of the word's richest cultures. By visiting the Island you're paying the Balinese a high compliment and helping to sustain its number one industry.

"Take only digital pictures leave only footprints."

(Guide to Bali by American Express)

Tri Hita Karana, Balinese Concept for Life

The Balinese Concept is fundamental from the Hindu Religion concept, which is more popular called TRI HITA KARANA where nowadays this concept is becomes the point of the hotel, restaurant and other building assessment in the world. On this stage, the human is demanded to keep the harmony and balance with god. This concept has huge meaning where the Balinese discipline and full confidence to do this. It is not only including to pray at the temple, however it is cover all the activities which has a good thing in the life like build the temple, cleaning the temple, keep the religion symbols well a lot of thing we can do on this concept.

PAWONGAN
Pawongan in this concept is required to keep the harmony and balance between human to human and this concept has emphasized how to keep good relation with others. The simple ways to execute the implementation of this concept are to conduct three good things like to think the good thing, to speak the good thing and to conduct the good thing. By conducting three good things that is called Tri Kaya Parisuda, it is ensure we can conduct this concept.

PELEMAHAN
Palemahan, this word is come from lemah that is meaning the land or environment. The names are range from ‘The Last Paradise’ to ‘The Morning of the World’, from ‘The Island of Gods to Island of Thousands Temples. If we imagine Bali as a product, various brands have been given to this single product, and the last attempt to give another brand for Bali was not come from the visitor to the island but from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

A new brand for Bali which called “Bali: Shanti Shanti Shanti” has been launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Culture. To shed a better light on this new brand for Bali, here is the explanation on the new brand provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture:

After going to every step within a precise methodological framework, the Bali Visual Branding has taken shape, taking into consideration the values of the prior finding. Inline with the brand differentiation that underlines the natural and cultural aspect, the visual and tagline of Bali branding is dominant with a spiritual feel. This leads to the emergence of philosophical elements and meaning to support the spirit of Bali.

The logo is explained in 4 steps:

- The visual elements

- The font

- Color

- Tagline

Visual

Symmetrical triangle

The triangle is a symbol of stability and balance. It is formed out of three straight lines in which both ends meet, taking the symbols of a blazing fire (Brahma – the creator), lingga or phallus. The triangle also represents the three Gods of the universe (Trimurti – Brahma, Wisnu, and Siwa), three stages of nature (Bhur, Bwah and Swah Loka), and three stages of Life (Born, Live, and Die).

The triangle also explains the essence of the brand that is influenced by Tri Hita Karana, the basic value that will guide us to a balanced life.

Hinduism has other philosophy and meaning of the triangle shape.

The symmetrical floral motif

If the triangle is folded, the motif on each side will be identically the same. This shows how balance becomes a vital part in the design of: the harmony and peace according to the brand vision.

The floral motif is strong and dominant. This enhances the creativity of Balinese that are known for their highly skilled craftsmanship. The floral motif is used to show the closeness of Bali people to their natural surrounding, emphasizing its most strong virtue, the beauty natural landscape.

The crown on the triangle

The crown is a symbol of: accomplishment, great awareness, and nobility. It is the pinnacle of balanced living noted in the Tri Hita Karana (balance relationship with others, nature, and the creator)

Font

The Bali typography adopts the line and curves of the traditional Balinese alphabet. The B in Bali takes shape like a 3 and the Ang alphabet (Brahma’s sacred lettering). It is also consistent with the Tri Hita Karana, the triangle and the three-shaped B in Bali. A specific treatment is shown on the letter L, which rises and supports the crown. The true meaning behind it is the need to sustain a deep commitment from stakeholders to reach the highest achievement (crown).

Color

Branding Bali uses 3 dominant colors that represent Bali: Red, Black, and White (Tri Datu). Red represents Brahma—the creator, white—Wisnu, the nurturer, and Black—Siwa, the destroyer. The collaboration of these 3 colors which represents 3 Gods (Tri Murti) will guard Bali and the life it supports to live in harmony and move forward in peace.

Tagline : Shanti, Shanti, Shanti

Shanti means “peace, if we say Shanti, we will be overflowed with a peaceful and harmonious spirit.
For Hindu people, Shanti is commonly said 3 times while adding the Om word (sacred script Ida Hyang Widhi Wasa—the one and only God) at the beginning and the end: Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti Om which means peace be upon your heart, world, and the after life. Saying it 3 times is also consistent with the original concept that emphasizes the number 3 (Tri).

Shanti, Shanti, Shanti represents peace upon Bhuwana alit dan agung

Welcome to Bali

OM Swastiastu
(May God blesses you)

this is a common greetings if you arrived in Bali

This blog contains information about Bali, the paradise island, compiles by a local boy from many source.
